Madabadaba School – Teachers Accommodation
The 2017 Expedition built this amazing school in Madabadaba. The school has had an intake of 46 this year, attracted some fantastic devoted teaching staff and made a huge impact on the community with plans to grow year on year. By 2020, the school should have over 250 pupils, and will still only just be starting with only 3 out of 7 years.
The community are rural tribes people, whose children would not have been given the opportunity to attend school without our team undertaking this project in 2017. The children are usually expected to spend their days herding the livestock, with the girls traditionally married very young, dropping out of, or being removed from school when they do so.
This school has given the young people an opportunity to gain an education, and a chance at choosing their own future.
The school was built in 2017, but desperately needs accommodation for the teachers to help retain the teachers at the school. Without the teachers, the school may fail. The current teachers are living in their offices within the school, away from their families, sleeping on mattresses on the floor - one with a young baby.
They have a current plan for an accommodation block at a cost of 35-40M for a double accommodation block. The plan would need to try and reduce this to 60-65M Tsh for 4.
The Campsite would be by the river as before, with toilets and showers at the school. Water would be pumped from River into storage tank. Will need a good water filter.
Food supply is OK, and the site is approx. 2hrs from Ifakara.
The project would be locally managed by Father Chahali (below drawing the layout of an accommodation block in the sand), who helped us build the school in 2017. The construction pictures below were taken during 2017, but the picture of the mattress on the floor is how the teachers are currently living.
